All about my Family
My parents, Tapan
and Arpana, were born and raised in Assam, India were most of my aunts and uncles
still reside. The majority of my cousins, have plastered themselves across the
globe from Delaware, to Belgium, to Bangalore, to Delhi...not to mention those
that are still in Assam ofcourse!
My paternal grandparents,
the late Bhuban Chandra and Minu Dutta traveled all over Assam before finally
residing in Guwahati. My grandfather was a judge at the High Court and because
of him, I once wanted to be a lawyer. (That dream was crushed when I realized
how poor I was in History!) My maternal grandparents, the late Pravati Prasad
and Padma Kumari Baruva were from Sonarie where we still go often to visit her
childhood home. My brother, Bobby, and I spent many a summers in the tea gardens
of Sonarie where my maternal grandfather owned several tea estates. We would
spend our time there as well as in the city of Guwahati in my paternal granparent's
home. Though we grew up in Saudi Arabia for almost 17 years of our lives...we
never lost touch with our roots in Assam. We have our parents to thank for this
as we have been spending almost every summer (that I can remember) back in India
with our aunts, uncles, and cousins. As many of my parent's Assamese friends
often comment "eman bhal asomiya kobo pare keneke?" This would be
the reason why.
I'm really looking
for to this May where quite a few of them will be crossing the oceans to be
here with us during this special time! Hurry up and get your visas, gang!!!
